Though electronic dance music, at its broadest definition, was brewed in the urban landscapes of the United States and moved quickly to the mainstream clubs in Western Europe, it also found its way to Africa, Asia, and South America. From the Miami Bass-Brazilian funk transmission, to skeumorphs of techno and house on singeli, kwaito, Asian underground, batida, dembow, and digital cumbia, focus will be turned towards the modern scenes that foster new sounds and historic movements that pioneered lasting genre. Foreign Exchange won't simply highlight dance producers from the global diaspora, but on irreplicable creative movements happening outside the English speaking world. With a different focus every week (whether genre, nation, label, artist, scene, or era), Foreign Exchange presents an anthropological, Anglo-exclusionary perspective on electronic dance music.
